Jimmy Buffet Needs New Flip Flops

In the summertime classic song “Margaritaville” by American songwriter Jimmy Buffet, He states:

I blew out my flip flop – and stepped on a pop top

Lucky for Mr. Buffet, flip flops are still an amazingly popular shoe for the beach, so finding a new one should help him avoid those beach-related injuries!

Why would a shoe so simple and basic be immortalized in song? Well, in the case of the flip flop, there is more than just Jimmy Buffet in love with how this shoe can unobtrusively protect and serve. Flip flops are a cheap and effective way to protect yourself not only from things that cut (like Buffet’s pop top), but flip flops help keep your feet’s soles from the hot sand. Considering you can often pick these up for next to nothing in any tourist town, it is no wonder they became part of Buffet’s lyrics.

Flip flops today come in a much wider variety of styles and colors than they did in years past. This is great for the beach visitor who is coordinating their “look” as well as for people who want to enjoy the ease and comfort of flip flops during everyday activities.

Definitely a casual look, these open-toed shoes are common in almost any summer setting. With their affordable pricing, availability, range of style and colors, and the different materials you can choose to find the right feel, flip flops may have come a long way since Jimmy Buffet sang about them in the 70s – but they are no less popular an option today.

Everyone is On Sale

Sale - BagsAccording to the consultants firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) of the top 100 retailers, ninety are on sale. With some retailers slashing prices up to seventy percent, everyone from fashion houses like Furla, Jaegar and even department stores like Marks & Spencer are all offering amazing discounts. Even shoe designer Jimmy Choo is selling some shoes at half price, dropping the price of Proud Elaphe snake sandals from $684 to $341. With many retailers cutting prices to clear shelves of older items, PWC says the average discount seen on high street is up to sixty percent.

Another consulting business, Ernst & Young, offer research that shows that the summer sales last year stared earlier than the previous year by ten days. The sales lasted longer, began earlier and the discounts were deeper. Experts warn shoppers to not get used to promotions to remain permanent and they feel that prices could be quietly rising on other products while eye-catching promotions are only on a few lines. Director at Verdict Neil Saunders feels retailers will be forced to raise their prices to recover rising costs, especially in clothing imports.
